Discipline was our downfall to a tough Nadroga rugby side in a tightly contested Skipper Cup semifinal clash.

This was the gist of Naitasiri rugby head coach Ilaitia Tuisese’s (Jnr) interview with SUNsports after their 21-17 loss to BLK Nadroga at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, on Saturday.

“In the second half nine points were scored against us, which was too much and when you’re playing a match like this you can’t be catching up all the time,” Tuisese said as Nadroga scored two quick tries in the opening five minutes of the match to lead 12-0.

However, the Highlanders fought back to hold them 12-12 at halftime.

“We had three players from last season and most of these players are new to this level of competition like the Skipper Cup.”

“This is an experience for them (players) moving forward and hopefully they’ll learn from this match,” Tuisese said.

“I like to thank the Naitasiri rugby fans for sticking with us through the highs and lows. Going to the West to cheer us on and it’s always great to have them.”

Tuisese said his players would gain experience with more time playing together as a team. Also they are having a lot of game time.

“We had an influx of players heading to overseas clubs and it was a big challenge for me to nurture these players to come this far,” he said.

“These players were unknown in the beginning of the season but people have now noticed them.

“So these young players from the highlands will make their mark in the future.”
