‘We’re not taking a backward step’: Julian Hill firm on decade-old war crimes stance

Labor MP Julian Hill says people accused of war crimes must “face the full force of the law,” emphasising there’s no compromise on this stance.

“We’re not taking a backward step on that,” Mr Hill told Sky News Australia.

However, he notes that these events took place over a decade ago, and the majority served honourably in Afghanistan or are currently serving and risking their lives in undisclosed operations.

Mr Hill believes politicians, from both the government and the Opposition, must advocate for those who can’t speak for themselves.

“These events occurred over ten years ago, and yet they’re often still reported or understood as if it’s still something happening now,” he said.
