Tributes pour in for Wedgefield crash victims

Tributes are pouring in for three friends who were killed when the car they were travelling in struck a light pole in Western Australia.

The white Holden Commodore, containing five men, was travelling on Wallwork Rd at Wedgefield in the Pilbara region about 9.20pm on June 10 when it veered off the road and hit the light pole.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where passenger Brandon Krakouer, 24, was declared dead.

Jermayne Smith, 25, had also died a short time later in hospital.

Harley Corbett, 22, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital following the crash and was admitted to the intensive care unit.

He had been in a critical condition for close to a week, but his life support was turned off on Sunday night.

All three young men were passengers in the rear of the vehicle.

The other two passengers, a 32-year-old front passenger and the 25-year-old driver were taken to Hedland Health Campus and treated for minor injuries.

Since the incident, tributes for the men have flooded social media with two sports clubs expressing their condolences.

Mr Corbett’s football club, Peel Thunder FC posted a tribute on their Facebook page, stating the club was “deeply saddened” to hear of his passing.

“Harley played six Colts games for Perth throughout 2020 and made four appearances for our Reserves in 2023,” the post states.

“Harley will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with Harley’s family & friends at this time.”

Mr Smith’s club, the Belmont Bombers Senior Football Club also posted a touching tribute for the talented football player who had a “cheeky smile that lit up his teammates and those around him”.

“BDFC offer our thoughts, condolences and support to their family and all those close to them,” the post read.

“Get around each other Boys, RIP and fly high our Brother #15 forever.”

The club had also worn black armbands in all three grades at its weekend games against Kwinana FC.

Mr Krakouer’s sister, Brittany has posted several tributes for her brother, with one picture showing a white cross with Mr Krakouer’s name in the ground surrounded by floral tributes.

“In a week, month (and) year people will forget about youse, me I’ll forever be broken my brothers. Brandon (and) Harley Corbett,” she posted.

It’s understood that police have not laid any charges over the crash.
