Tagituimua Expected to Replace Koroisau in Fiji Bati Squad

Koroisau’s tackle on Clint Gutherson in the 52nd minute at Campbelltown Sports Stadium was assessed as a Grade 2 and as this was his second offence it carried a three-game ban with an early guilty plea.

Canterbury Bulldogs hooker Penioni Tagituimua is expected to be named in the Fiji Bati squad today.

This was after Wests Tigers skipper and Fiji rep Api Koroisau will miss the Pacific Championships after being banned for three matches for a dangerous throw during his side’s loss to Eels.

Koroisau’s tackle on Clint Gutherson in the 52nd minute at Campbelltown Sports Stadium was assessed as a Grade 2 and as this was his second offence it carried a three-game ban with an early guilty plea.

“In the past, Tagituimua has always given his best for the jersey,” national coach Wise Kativerata said.

“We saw that in the last World Cup, Tagitumua did a great job and we look forward to seeing him back in the squad,” he said.

Tagituimua began playing rugby league in 2013 for the Nadera Panthers in the Vodafone Cup competition.

In 2019, Tagituimua was the only player from the Fijian domestic competition included in Fiji’s squad for their mid-season match against Lebanon.

Initially selected to be the 18th man, a number of injuries and unavailabilities allowed him to make his Test debut off the interchange bench in the 56–14 win.

Fiji Bati kicks off their Pacific Bowl campaign against Papua New Guinea on Saturday, October 19 in Fiji, before hosting the Cook Islands a week later.

The winner of the Pacific Bowl plays the third-placed team in the Pacific Cup at CommBank Stadium on Sunday, November 10 in a promotion-relegation match for next year’s tournament.

The team is expected to be named today.
