Nasova’s journey from Beijing to France

“I thank the coaches for having faith in me to allow me to represent Fiji to the world’s finest competition, the Olympics.

Team Fiji men’s rugby sevens rover Jioji Nasova is the only player in the squad who made his debut in the HSBC SVNS series this year. Now he has got the green light to represent the country at the Paris Olympic Games, which is from July 26 to August 11.

The 23-year-old said playing at the Hong Kong Sevens was special for him as this was where he made his debut.

“I made my debut in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Madrid,” Nasova told SUNsports.

“I thank the coaches for having faith in me to allow me to represent Fiji to the world’s finest competition, the Olympics.

“Those of us who have been chosen to represent Fiji in France have done our hard yards to defend the gold medal. Fiji indeed won it back to back but we will give our best to win gold the third time.”

Nasova is originally from Toge in Ba. He also played for Beijing RC in 2023 for a one-year contract after he was scouted while playing for Dominion Brothers.

“I did play in the Suva 10s and then a coach from China did pull me out and I got a contract,” said Nasova.

He attended Toge Primary School then to Nukuloa College and Ba Provincial Freebird Institute where he played rugby league. This was short-lived when he was selected to play for Naitasiri Under-20 in the Skipper Cup competition.
