Nadroga Rugby Union Yet to Receive Prize Money

Waqavonovono said they are waiting for FRU to come through with the payment so they can reward their players.

The Nadroga Rugby Union ( NRU) is yet to receive their Skipper Cup prize money of $30,000.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday NRU president Jiuta Waqavonovono said their prize money is still being processed at Rugby House.

Questions emailed to FRU interim Trustees chairman Peter Mazey yesterday were not answered with this edition went to press.

The BLK Nadroga rugby side beat FMF Suva 22-17 in the Skipper Cup final at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, last Saturday.

The Stallions won both the Skipper Cup Under-20 and Seniors competitions. Waqavonovono said they are waiting for FRU to come through with the payment so they can reward their players.

He indicated the vanua of Nadroga is happy that the team was able to restore lost glory.

“There are celebrations everywhere to honour the teams’ accomplishments.”

Waqavonovono indicated that Nadroga’s win is special after seven years of trying.

Waqavonovono indicated that Nadroga’s win is special after seven years of trying.

“The main motive of the team is to breed champion players and that is what we saw in the final.

“We have a young team filled with depth and skill, the future is bright for the team,” he said.

He said the coaches believed in the players and the players believed in themselves, they can do the job.

When asked if the players will be financially rewarded, Waqavonovono said: “The $30,000 prize money from FRU will go to the players.
They (FRU) are supposed to have it processed and will notify us. We are still waiting for FRU’s notification on this.”

“As soon as it comes then we can work on the date, inform our sponsors, stakeholders and families about the details of the celebration,” he said.

Waqavonovono added the celebration would be for both teams.

“We will give bonuses to the performing individuals (players) as they deserve it.

“This is the start of something big and we look forward to what the future holds,” he said.
