Sky News host Amanda Stoker says it would be a “mistake” to entrench identity politics into Australia’s constitution with the Voice to Parliament.
Ms Stokers’ comments come as the debate over enshrining the Voice to Parliament into the Australian constitution heats up as the referendum date draws near.
“The constitution isn’t an emotional document; to insert emotion in a document with a legal purpose and operation is just an invitation to judicial activism,” Ms Stoker said.
“The constitution is legal and mechanical, rather than a poetic or cultural document.
“There is good reason to maintain a narrow and legal purpose for our constitution, and avoid adapting it to symbolic, emotional, or cultural purposes.”
