Minister Orders BCF to Investigate Brawl

“If you look at the video clips, Dauloloma was actually winning. It shouldn’t have gone to that stage because he was clearly boxing very well.”

The Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) directors were last night investigating the brawl that erupted during the Fiji heavyweight title fight and another related incident at Saturday night’s Bluewater Boxing Promotion at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The directive came from the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, who wants the Commission to announce their decision today on the fate of those that were involved in the fracas.

“At the moment, we are leaving it with the Boxing Commission of Fiji board to look into it and investigate what had happened,” Saukuru said.

“I have shared with them my concern and the concern of Government.”

The Minister stressed that it is unexceptional for these kinds of things to be happening in professional boxing.

“Boxing is a sport. People are trying to exercise their power but I have asked them to investigate,” he said.

“If you look at the video clips, Dauloloma was actually winning. It shouldn’t have gone to that stage because he was clearly boxing very well.”

When contacted BCF chairman Adi Narayan confirmed that they are having a press conference in Suva, this morning.
