The Extra Supermarket Labasa football side is back to their winning ways when they beat visitors Nasinu 2-0 in their Digicel Fiji Premier League (DFPL) clash at Subrail Park on Saturday.

The three points earned from the win ensured that Labasa maintained the second spot of the DFPL points table.

Labasa striker Tigi Molea broke the deadlock in the first half after blasting a shot from inside the 18-yard box for a 1-0 lead. Youngster, Jone Lalagavesi, extended Labasa’s lead in the 80th minute of the game.

Labasa coach, Ravneel Pratap, was satisfied, with the win indicating that it was crucial for them to maintain second spot on the points table.

“The players knew the importance of this game because the next few games away will be tough,” he said.

Labasa bounced back from a disappointing 1-1 draw against Nadi and Tailevu/Naitasiri in the last two rounds. They now travel to Viti Levu to play Ba in Round 17 of the DFPL.

Pratap said the decision making of his players had improved compared to previous games where players did not make foolish passes.

“We didn’t play any risky passes at the back, I’m happy with the players’ decision making. It is all fighting for the league title now, we have let ourselves down in some of the previous games.

“Keeping a buffer on the other teams such as Lautoka is really important,” Pratap said.

Lautoka is currently third on the points table and stands a good chance of moving up to second spot.

Pratap took time to congratulate Lalagavesi for scoring on his debut match for Labasa in the DFPL.

“First game at home, getting a lot of game time and scoring a goal is a big break for the youngster,” he added.
