FMF Foods Limited has secured a five-year deal with the Fiji Football Association to sponsor the Inter-District Championship (IDC).

The total amount was not revealed as per their agreement but Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel described it as a lucrative one.

Speaking during the press conference at the FMF headquarters in Suva yesterday, FMF group manager operations Jimi Taniela outlined the reasons for their stepping forward to sponsor the tournament.

“It is our community engagement and development of all people,” he said.

“To unite people around Fiji and promote healthy lifestyles, also to assist in the development of local talents.”

Taniela said sponsoring the IDC brings visibility to the FMF brands.

“The IDC is a high profile event and a prestigious tournament,” he added.

The IDC was first played in 1938 between five teams of Suva, Ba, Rewa, Levuka and Lautoka.

Patel said this is a historic occasion for FMF to step in and sponsor the 86-year old tournament.

“Firstly, my thanks to Courts for sponsoring the IDC in the past years and as of now new decisions have to be made and FMF has come in.

“The IDC is the biggest football tournament in the country with 22 district teams playing,” he said.

This year’s IDC will be from October 15-20 at Churchill Park, Lautoka.
