Apia, SAMOA – 19 June 2024 – Fiji’s new High Commissioner to Samoa, His Excellency, Mr. William Brown Toganivalu presented his Letter of Credence to the Head of State, Afioga Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II at a credential ceremony yesterday morning.

Samoa and Fiji established diplomatic relations in 1974, and have continued to maintain cordial relations rooted in their shared history, cultural heritage and mutual respect for one another.

The High Commissioner expressed Fiji’s best wishes for Samoa’s preparation for the upcoming CHOGM and in response the Head of State acknowledged the Pacific’s support including Fiji in Samoa’s preparation to host the upcoming CHOGM and looks forward to welcoming and hosting Fiji and the rest of our Commonwealth Aiga in Apia come October.

The Head of State expressed his confidence in Mr. Toganivalu’s appointment as the High Commissioner of Fiji to Samoa which will certainly continue to further strengthen our existing relations and foster cooperation on matters of mutual interests.

Mr Toganivalu holds a BA in Economic and management from the University of the South Pacific and a Postgraduate Certificate in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester (UK). Mr. Toganivalu is a former senior non-commissioned officer in the British Army with experience in working within different countries and cultures. He also served in high-stress conditions such as in the Middles East, Africa, Europe and the Pacific. Most recently he worked as a regional security and risk management advisor responsible for the Pacific region at the German Development Cooperation (GIZ).

The High Commissioner is based in Suva, Fiji.
