Fijiana lock Thinks Overseas Offer

“I am double minded, I am blessed to be part of the Fijiana development women’s side and recently I have been offered a two-year contract with Queensland Reds for Super W,” Narokete said.

Fijiana lock Doreen Narokete is still contemplating on an overseas offer given to her last month.

Narokete turned 21 last Saturday and has been a consistent member of the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua since 2022.

Originally from Tavuki in Kadavu, Narokete had represented Fiji in touch rugby before switching to rugby union. Her first club was Nadi Aviators then she walked over to the Suva-based side Strikers Club.

It was there that national coach Suliasi Fuli called her into the Fijiana sevens squad.

“I am double minded, I am blessed to be part of the Fijiana development women’s side and recently I have been offered a two-year contract with Queensland Reds for Super W,” Narokete said.

“They (Reds) had approached me when I was playing in Australia for the Brothers Rugby Club last month (November). I was told that when I return to Australia we would discuss things further,” she said.

“I’m still on a break. I am now on my rehabilitation process for my shoulder and knee. I’m trying my best to get out on the field.”

Narokete has been part of the Fijiana outfit that has won the SuperW title back to back – 2022 and 2023.

“It is always an honour to play for your country and to be part of the winning side is a result of hard working players, good coaching and management.

“I have had my share of challenges, all have failed to deter or derail me from the course I am taking now with rugby.

“It is my profession and I need to think well about the offers and opportunities put on the plate in front of me.

“I am fortunate to have a good family, especially my mum (Torika Narokete) who is always supporting me in everything; my dad and two brothers for always being there for me during hard times.”

Narokete aspires to take up coaching in the future.

“My uncle Peni Ravai is a role model who I often look up to when I started playing rugby,” she said.

“To young female ruggers out there do not ever give up, chase your dreams.”

The Super Rugby Women’s competition kicks off on Friday March 15. The Queensland Reds will host two-time Super W champions Fijiana Drua women’s side on Sunday March 17 at Ballymore Stadium, Brisbane.
