Discipline comes first for Nadroga U20

“Naitasiri has strong bulky forwards who are good in their set piece and ruck area. The motivation for the team to win is our unity and spirit of brotherhood to conquer the final.”

The Nadroga Under-20 rugby team will prioritise discipline in their Skipper Cup U20 grand-final clash against last year’s runner-up Naitasiri at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, tomorrow.

This was after the Nadroga U20 side received two yellow cards in their 34-32 semifinal win over Nadi last Saturday.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Nadroga U20 manager Manueli Fumanu said they would need to polish their set-pieces.

“With the preparations so far, we know that it’ll be a good final for us this Saturday,” he said.

“We’ll try to open the game up and play from the flanks.”

Fumanu said they intend to utilise their speedy wingers in open space.

“We went through a lot in this year’s Skipper Cup campaign but the dedication and teamwork from the players has enabled us to reach the grand-final,” he said.

“We’re grateful that through divine intervention our campaign has reached the final.”

Fumanu has advised the players to be consistent in their performance and focus on their goal.

Fumanu said he had lost a few of his players to the Fiji U20 team to the World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa from June 29 to July 19.

“Our players are Samuela Ledua, Sakenasa Senivono and Sikeli Basiyalo to name a few and not forgetting Paul Sharma,” he said.

“My message to the players was to believe in themselves, work hard and never give up from day one.”

Fumanu said the supporters can expect an entertaining match from the junior sides of the two dominant unions in provincial rugby.

“The players are ready for the match and we’re coming in the final as underdogs. I trust our players will deliver in the final against Naitasiri.”

Fumanu has urged the Nadroga rugby supporters to be at Ratu Cakobau Park on Saturday to cheer on their U20 team.
