The Silolo Bridge in North Malaita is in a critical condition, posing serious challenges to transportation access between the region and Auki, the provincial capital of Malaita. Community members have expressed grave concern over the deteriorating state of the bridge, which is vital for the movement of goods and people in the area.

The current state of the bridge has disrupted transportation services, making it difficult for vehicles to safely cross. 

This has affected not only commuters but also businesses, schools, and essential services that rely on the transport route to Auki.

Local leaders emphasized the urgency of the situation, saying, “The Silolo Bridge is a lifeline for our community. Without it, our access to critical services in Auki is severely limited. We are calling on the government to address this issue before it worsens.”

Many fear that without immediate government intervention, the situation could become disastrous, cutting off entire communities and further isolating North Malaita. 

The condition of the bridge has also raised safety concerns, as heavy vehicles risk further damaging the structure or causing accidents.

As the rainy season approaches, the situation could worsen, putting even greater pressure on the already fragile bridge. Immediate action is necessary to prevent further deterioration and ensure the continued accessibility of North Malaita.

The community hopes that by drawing attention to the issue, the government will allocate resources to solve the problem swiftly and restore reliable transportation.
