Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne will report to the Fiji Rugby Union board, this week as to review the team’s recent performances.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, FRU chief executive officer Rovereto Nayacalevu said this is the usual practice, where the board reviews all aspects of performance at the end of each campaign.

“The head coach has returned from Australia and will report to the board on the recent tour, this week,” he said.

When asked if the board was happy with the Flying Fijians recent performance, Nayacalevu said: “While the result against the All Blacks was not what we had hoped for, the win against Georgia and the improvement in world ranking following that result are things for us to build on in the future.”

On any area of concern, the CEO indicated it was the limited access to players given that the Barbarians game (in Twickenham) was played during the Super Rugby season and outside of the World Rugby access window.

“These are two areas on concern,” Nayacalevu added.

He reiterated that all staff members including Byrne have key performance indicators (KPIs) agreed to in their job description.

“Directive, if any would be given after the review process when Coach Mick is back on the island,” he said.

Nayacalevu also confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald to the recent tour has tendered her resignation.
