Bula Boys Chase Nations Cup

Sherman said the players are focused in avoiding cards and sending overs in their quest to become the first Fijian team to reach the OFC Nations Cup final.

Bula Boys head coach, Rob Sherman says discipline is priority against a determined Vanuatu side backed by a loud and strong group of supporters in their Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Nations Cup semi-final tomorrow at the Freshwater Stadium.

Sherman said the players are focused in avoiding cards and sending overs in their quest to become the first Fijian team to reach the OFC Nations Cup final.

“We have spoken to the players and told them not to do anything silly,” Sharman said.

“For me personally, retaliation and aggression towards other players and disrespect shown towards referees can severely impede a player’s national selection,” he said.

On the quality attacking plays Fijian players have created in the last three games, Sherman said this reflected on the goals they scored.

“You can’t score every time, but, we are creating those quality attacking goal chances so that’s the main thing,” he said.

Fiji is the highest goal scoring team in the tournament with 15 goals and had conceded only twice after completing a clean sweep with three wins.

They caused two upsets after beating FIFA higher ranked (165) Papua New Guinea 5-1 and (161) Tahiti 1-0 while demolishing Samoa 9-1 in pool play.

“We will take one game at a time, obviously we will love to make the final, but, at this stage we must keep our feet on the ground,” he said.

Sherman said his players were in good spirits with decent accommodation and have entertaining sessions.

“We have done our analysis on Vanuatu and we will keep that to ourselves,” he indicated.

Sherman has confirmed there were no injuries and the 23 players are fit for selection against Vanuatu.

“We don’t want to give the opposition any heads up,” he added.
