Two heavyweight boxers have had their boxing licenses suspended for four months by the Boxing Commission of Fiji yesterday.

Minister of Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru had voiced out his disappointment and called for immediate action following a boxing incident on Saturday at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka between Fiji heavyweight champion James ‘The Beast’ Singh and Semi Dauloloma.

BCF chairman Adi Narayan following his Monday meeting with the Minister labelled the incident as a disgrace to the sport.

“As the chairman of the Boxing Commission of Fiji, I am very disturbed to witness such an incident,” Narayan said at yesterday’s press conference.

“Minister Saukuru took time out of his busy Parliament sitting to attend the meeting,” he said.

“The Ministry will not tolerate this in professional boxing.

“The two boxers should’ve displayed great sportsmanship since they are champion boxers.”

Singh is the current heavyweight champion of Fiji while Dauloloma holds the Leweni Waqa Memorial heavyweight belt.

BCF made the decision following consultation with the Minister of Sports.

“Both boxers will be suspended of their license the next four months,” he said.

“Come 2025, they will start clean and fresh.

“Four months of suspension will send a message to every boxer.

“If Semi had taken that five minute break and then come back, he would’ve won the fight,” he said.

The belt will remain with James ‘The Beast’ Singh.

“He is still the champion.”

WHAT HAPPENED

Trouble erupted during the Fiji heavyweight title fight when title holder James ‘The Beast’ Singh punched Semi Dauloloma, while they were on the canvas.

This was their third fight and in the first round, Singh was decked when he copped a hook from Dauloloma.

Going into the second round, Dauloloma cornered Singh on the ropes and their exchange of punches resulted in both falling to the canvas.

Singh punched Dauloloma twice on the floor while referee Fatu Tuimanono tried to separate them. The ring officials jumped into ring to separate the boxers as things turned ugly.

Tempers flared and there an exchange of heated words, this angered Dauloloma, who is in rage charged towards Singh but was held back by the ring officials as punches were thrown from both sides (corner men) with a punch hitting one of ring officials.

The bout was stopped and declared a no-contest.
