The Fijian Drua will scout Under-16s boys this year and will increase participation from U14 to U19 next year.

This was revealed yesterday as the Fijian Drua started its rugby screening sessions for their academy programme in partnership with the Fiji Rugby Union this week.

The Super Rugby Pacific franchise started with the nominees submitted from respective zones in the western division.

“After the initial screening, 45 players will be selected for a special combined match on August 28, before the final 30 are selected as the first-ever cohort for the Drua Academy,” a statement said.

It added that the Drua Academy players will be invited to several camps this year at the Drua Headquarters utilising the club facilities and accessing the best coaching and support resources,

They will also be receiving specialised training and development programmes.

The Fijian Drua officials will keep a close eye on their progress as they (players) play in the various school competitions.

The screening sessions for the other zones in the country will begin next week.

All the 30 boys will be formally contracted.
