The Fiji Police Force Acting Commissioner, Juki Fong Chew, is committed to holding police officers accountable for their actions.
Especially, if they cross the line of ethical behaviour and are involved in any form of activity unbecoming of a law enforcement officer.
Five officers, who allegedly assaulted a 27-year-old man on March 27 last year, will be produced at the Nausori Magistrate’s Court today.
They face one count of assault causing actual bodily harm for an alleged incident in Nausori.
He said due process would be followed upon receipt of an official complaint against any officer, and if allegations are assessed to be criminal, the Criminal Investigations Department will take over.
Then, if an officer is found guilty in a court of law, he or she will be terminated.
Mr Chew said officers were constantly reminded that their role was not only to enforce the law but, equally as important, to abide by the law.
