Double code Flying Fijians fullback Vuate Karawalevu’s brutal cover defence and clear kicks against their recent victory against Samoa has not gone unnoticed.

Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has revealed that there is possibility that the Dravuwalu, Kadavu flyer might join them next season.

The former Marist Brothers High School rugby captain was also the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics 400 metres gold medallist.

“He (Vuate) will bolster our backline,” Jackson said.

Karawalevu, 23, played for the Kaiviti Silktails in 2021, represented the Fiji Bati side in the 2021 Rugby World Cup.

He is signed up for two seasons with the Waratahs season.

“We have 14 Drua players that played for the winning Flying Fijians against Samoa, which is a great sign,” Jackson said.

Fiji had stomped Samoa 42-16 in their first Pacific Nations Cup match on August 23 at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva.

Jackson revealed the Drua team will have its pre-season camp in Kadavu.

“We will be making renovations at the Drua base. It will an improved environment to breed world class players,” he said.

He added that welcoming back Joseva Tamani was a boost to the club as he (Tamani) can play back row and lock.

Two recent Drua signings are Peni Ravai and Inia Tabuavou.

“Peni brings a wealth of experience; he’s a good mentor especially for our front row and is also a good impact player,” he added.

New centre combination will see Iosefo Masi pairing up with former Racing 92 centre Tabuavou.

Tabuavou made his second test appearance against Samoa last week and showed great pace, defense and determination.

New Fijian Drua interim general manager Baden Stephenson has also revealed a plan for a 10s tournament on December 13, later this year.

“We want to make this an international tournament that will also involve Skipper teams,” Stephenson said.
