The Mick Byrne-coached FIJI Water Flying Fijians has mapped out a strategy against the Barbarians clash for the Killick Cup at Twickenham in England this Sunday.

Last year the side created history at the same venue when they beat England 30-22 for the first time in test history.

The Barbarians will be full of talent against Rugby World Cup quarter-finalists Fiji, with the likes of Danny Care, Ben Youngs, Jonathan Joseph, Jonny May, and Kyle Sinckler ; they have all signed up to represent the world-famous invitational side led by Kiwi coach Robbie Deans.

Two-time Rugby World Cup winner Sam Whitelock has been penciled in for the Barbarians outfit.

“We’ve got our Drua players moving into the Flying Fijian season. It’s an exciting time for everybody. We’re looking forward to showcasing Fiji talent back on the global stage,” Byrne said.

Over 60,000 people have already secured their seats for the biggest rugby showcase of the summer.

Georgia and AB’s prep

Byrne said the side has a got a good mix of players from the Northern hemisphere and Drua.

“I have spoken to all the players in the Northern hemisphere and they’re massively excited about the opportunity to come back and put on the Flying Fijians jersey,” he said.

“Having played Georgia in the World Cup last year’s memorable game, it’s a great opportunity for us to go and play them at their home.

“Then we head across to San Diego where we take on the All Blacks. They’ve had a restructure in their team. Everyone’s excited about what they’re going to bring, but also, we’re pretty excited by the team that we’re taking over there.

“We believe we’re going to be more than competitive in San Diego and we’re looking for a great challenge there.

“It’s a very exciting time for all of us. And I know that we’ve still got some players up North just finishing off their season.”

The Flying Fijians fly out today and will play the Babas at 4:15am on Sunday.
